Who will make sure that my camper receives their medications?
We have a registered nurse on campus during each session of camp. The nurse provides all medical care to campers during the week and advises the Camp Director if a camper needs further treatment. The nurse also administers prescription meds, vitamins, and any over the counter drugs that parents have confirmed that their camper can have.
When will I be notified if my camper is ill or injured?
If a camper is ill/injured beyond minor scrapes or it requires a stay in the infirmary for more than one hour, parents will be contacted at the numbers provided. Further treatment plans will be discussed then. In cases of an emergency, 911 will be called and the parents will be notified.
Children with special needs:
While we do our best to accommodate all children that want to come to camp, please understand that Camp Kaleo is not equipped to care for campers that has an emotional, physical, or mental disability that would prevent their full participation in the camp program.
Lice Check:
At drop off on Mondays, each camper must check-in before moving into their cabins. At lice check, a staff member checks each campers head. If a child is found with lice, further action is determined by the camp director based on the resources available that week.
Options include:
The child being quarantined and treated for lice. This incurs a $125 fee paid by the campers family for lice removal supplies and extra staffing required. *This option is subject to staff availability.
The camper will be sent home to be treated and can be cleared to return with a doctor's note. If the camper is not cleared, we will work with the family/church leader to return for a different session when there has been time for further treatment.
Who will be working with my camper?
2-3 college age staffers will be in a cabin. Staff are hand-picked, godly young adults who are walking with the Lord. All staff, missionaries, pastors, nurses, and volunteers received background checks and child protection training. All staff receive additional training in prevention and correcting of bullying, safety, problem solving, and other topis to best care for campers. At Camp Kaleo, we follow the rule of three: meaning that no staffer is every alone with one camper. Every staff member is certified in CPR and First Aid. All lifeguards have received certification through the American Red Cross.
